Paintings: Works on Paper
Works on Paper
These paintings on archival paper reflect my interest in simple geometric images and my ongoing use of mathematics for subject matter. For many of them, I apply a formal grid system which I designed using the geometric principles of dynamic symmetry as described by Jay Hambidge in his book The Elements of Dynamic Symmetry.

Logo
This image is my logo. It was inspired by the way that needles grow on the Bonsai trees at the National Arboretum in Washington DC. The little system of marks became one that flowed easily from my hand as I drew backgrounds for my Woodland Series and for two of the images in this gallery: "Bonsai Clouds" and "Study for Bamboo Beams". But then I couldn't get rid of it--my hand was making it incessantly--so I finally gave in and announced "This will be my logo". And then it wasn't appearing all the time in my artworks! Whew!
